Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the election for president on February 25, has criticised Anthony Blinken’s choice to phone President-elect Bola Tinubu a few days ago.
According to prior reports, Blinken called Tinubu on May 16 and promised the US will continue to support the Nigerian government.
In a series of tweets posted this morning, Obi expressed his opinion that the rule of law is the most important tenet and core value of democracy. Because Nigeria’s democracy was built on these values, which are also important to Americans, Obi suggested that the U.S.-Nigeria relationship should be guided by these principles.
He said that the results of the presidential election are being challenged in court and that Nigerians anticipate the United States to wait until all ongoing legal proceedings are completed before tacitly endorsing the results of the election.
