Online discussions among Ghanaians have been ignited by a popular video of President Nana Addo telling the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, to call someone to order during the commemorative tree-planting ceremony on Green Ghana Day.
The president reportedly noticed a chief seated during the event as the national anthem was being sung. The chief’s actions incensed the president, who ordered Henry Quartey to summon the chief to order right away and tell him to stand for the anthem.
On June 9, when dignitaries met to celebrate Green Ghana Day at the University of Ghana, the aforementioned occurrence took place.
Mixed emotions were felt in response to the president’s response to the incident. While some applauded the president for reprimanding the commander for acting in an unpatriotic manner, others questioned whether it was morally appropriate for the president to do so.
