For the first time in the history of the Nigerian Presidency, President Bola Tinubu has a firefighting truck in his convoy.
When Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, paid his first visit to the Federal Fire Service’s headquarters on Thursday, June 15, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji, the Controller General of the Service, revealed this.
Jaji added that in order to manoeuvre through packed areas that were previously inaccessible to larger firefighting equipment, they have also acquired 15 quick firefighting small trucks.
He said;
“We recently completed and commissioned the first Fire House props in West Africa located inside the National Fire Academy Sheda. Procurement of 15 Ford Built Rapid Intervention Vehicles, already delivered to the Service awaiting commissioning and deployment.
“Approval of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to include the Service Rapid Intervention Vehicle in his motorcade. This is the first in the history of Nigeria. Other firsts include celebration of the International Firefighter’s day.
“Approval of a large expanse of land for the building of the Service National Headquarters in Sauka, Abuja, FCT”
Jaji added that the organization must deal with issues such a lack of manpower, attacks on firefighters, housing requirements for staff, a lack of firefighting infrastructure, and budgetary restraints, among others.
