Pregnancy Mystery in Divorce Proceedings: Woman Claims Unexplained Conception Without Intimacy
Taibat Abubakar, a woman seeking a divorce, has made a puzzling revelation before a magistrates’ court in Ipata, Ilorin, Kwara State. She expressed her confusion over getting pregnant without engaging in sexual intercourse with her husband, Abubakar Salihu.
According to Taibat, her husband insisted on marriage despite her lack of love for him. She explained, “He proposed, but I refused because I didn’t have feelings for him. However, he persisted, stating that I had no choice in his proposal.”
“Then, out of the blue, he called me one day, claiming that I was pregnant with his child and insisted I should not terminate the pregnancy. Although I was surprised, I didn’t take it seriously until I missed my period without having sexual relations with him,” she added.
Taibat further revealed that her dowry had been paid, and she had already given birth to a child. However, her love for her husband had diminished.
In her plea to the court for the dissolution of the marriage, Taibat requested a monthly sum of N10,000 for child support and urged the court to order her estranged husband to pay the child’s school fees.
Salihu, on the other hand, denied Taibat’s claims, asserting that she initially rejected his advances but eventually agreed to their relationship.
“We had consensual physical intercourse, not in a dream or spiritual realm as she has claimed,” he refuted.
The magistrate, Ajibade Lawal, instructed the couple to maintain the status quo until the next adjourned date, which is scheduled for July 25, 2023.
