Businesses connected to the leaders of both sides in the Sudanese conflict have come under UK sanctions.
The sanctions apply to three companies connected to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and three to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the SAF’s opponent in the war for control.
The struggle between the regular army and the paramilitary RSF threatens to turn into a full-fledged civil war as the action begins.
Foreign Minister James Cleverly declared: “These sanctions are directly targeting those whose activities, according to reports, have damaged the lives of millions.
“Both sides have committed multiple ceasefire violations in a war, which is completely unjustified”.
According to the Foreign Office, over three months of conflict had left about 25 million people in need of humanitarian relief, with more than 2.2 million of them being internally displaced.
The Foreign Office has identified Al-Junaid, GSK Advance Company Ltd, and Tradive General Trading Co. as companies connected to the RSF.
Defence Industries Systems, Sudan Master Technology, and Zadna International Company for Investment are the three companies affiliated with the SAF.
The sanctions will guarantee the freezing of all assets owned by the companies in the UK.
