New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Creates Ripples by Offering GHC100,000 to Select Constituency Chairmen in Anticipation of Special Delegate Elections
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, popularly known as ‘Assin Fosu Bill Gate’, has sent shockwaves through the ranks of other aspirants within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a bold proposition. He has promised specific constituency chairmen a substantial sum of GHC100,000 each if they cast their votes in his favor during the upcoming electoral college scheduled for Saturday, August 26.
Aiming to secure 30% of the special delegate votes, Ken Agyapong aims to establish a commanding presence against the established contenders and give a strong push to his campaign in preparation for the main elections on November 4, 2023.
In recent days, Agyapong and his team convened with select special delegates from the Central region, providing an initial disbursement of GHC5,000 to each delegate. He assured them of additional financial support on the election day itself. His message underscored his shared identity with the delegates and his consistent financial contributions to the regions over the years. He urged them to stand by him, aligning with the support that delegates from other regions would be offering to their respective candidates.
In a separate engagement, Agyapong met with Regional Executives and some Chairmen, urging their allegiance and further committing to offering each of them GHC100,000 should he secure a decisive victory in his home region.
He is contemplating replicating this approach in the Volta, Oti, and Greater Accra regions with carefully chosen chairmen.
Ken Agyapong’s considerable financial resources, bolstered in part by his tenure during Kufuor’s administration and various contracts within the current government, are targeted towards achieving a 30% share in the special election on August 26. However, sources within the NPP are inclined to believe that the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, is poised for a resounding victory, anticipated to secure no less than 70% of the votes.
