On Wednesday, hours after declaring they had ousted the government, the coup leaders in Gabon said that President Ali Bongo Ondimba was placed under house arrest and that one of his sons had been detained for “treason.”
The military leaders stated this on national Television where they announced that they were “putting an end to the current regime”.
“President Ali Bongo is under house arrest, surrounded by his family and doctors,” they said in a statement read out on state TV.
