Alan Kyeremanten’s decision to ‘drop out’ of the NPP flagbearer race sparked a wave of reaction, and celebrities have joined the conversation.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2023, the NPP flagbearer candidate announced his resignation in a message that quickly went viral on social media, shocking and disappointing Ghanaians.
“In light of the foregoing, I wish to confirm that I am honorably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the Presidential Primaries to be held on the 4th of November 2023.
In the next upcoming weeks, I will provide an indication of the role that I will play in politics in Ghana, after consultations with my family and other well-wishers, various stakeholders and interest groups,” parts of the press statement read.
Mr. Kyerematen, who finished third at the party’s special delegate conference on August 26, claimed that agents’ intimidation caused him to withdraw from the contest.
He added that the contest appears to be purposefully set up to advantage one of the contenders.
However, some online users argued that he should have kept going until the conclusion, while others backed his choice.
