The Prime Minister of the internationally recognized government has pledged a careful vetting process for foreign aid before accepting it as Libya continues to assess its losses from the devastating flood that struck on Sunday.
The Prime Minister, Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah, stated in a press conference on Tuesday that his country is currently reviewing international offers of assistance with the main goal of determining what is truly necessary and ensuring seamless coordination of rescue operations in the wake of the catastrophic flooding that has killed at least 2,000 people.
“We have received numerous offers of support, and we will only accept aid that is deemed necessary,” asserted Abdul Hamid Dbeibah during the press briefing.
The complex political environment has provided significant obstacles to successful rescue efforts, even if some international aid has already begun to arrive in eastern Libya, where the city of Derna is located and is the area that has been most severely affected.
