DJ and artist DJ Azonto called certain celebrities who took part in the recent #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest “broke” in a series of digs at them.
He asserted that celebrities who participated in the protests had nothing better to do with their time during a recent interview on Cape Coast’s Property FM.
“Celebrities who are broke and don’t own businesses and have nothing better to do with their lives are those who attended the demonstration,” he said.
Anybody who could think of a well-known entertainer who was financially secure, owned real estate, and took part in the demonstrations was challenged by DJ Azonto.
He claimed that “serious-minded” celebrities who were only interested in making money skipped the protests. Instead, the “lazy” celebs wasted time protesting while standing in the heat when they might have been working instead.
“Did you see serious-minded celebrities at the demonstration? It is only poor artistes who attend such protests.
“Celebrities who attended the protests are lazy because time is money, so if they had something better to do, why would they go and stand in the hot sun to protest?” he said.
The Accra-based civil society organisation Democracy Hub organised the three-day #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests. It sought to urge government action against what it viewed as economic mismanagement and corruption within the executive branch.
Efia Odo, Stonebwoy, Kwaw Kese, D Black, and other well-known Ghanaians joined the demonstrators to call on the government to provide better living circumstances.
