At a rally in New Hampshire on Monday, former US president Donald Trump compared himself to late South African leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela.
He painted himself as the victim of state and federal prosecutors who, according to him, are politically motivatedly going after him and his businesses.
He spoke mostly on the legal battles he was facing when he returned to the state to sign up for its presidential primary.
Additionally, he stated at one point that he was not afraid of going to jail like Mandela, who served 27 years in prison for his opposition to the apartheid government in South Africa.
“I don’t mind being Nelson Mandela because I’m doing it for a reason. I’m doing it for a reason. We got to save our country from these fascists,” said Trump.
Trump claimed that prosecutors “only go after the people that challenge the results of the election. They don’t go after the people that cheated”.
“Those people are free. Those people have no problem. If you want to challenge the result of an election, they hound you,” he added.
Trump then recited the words to the ominous tune “The Snake,” which he has been using since his first presidential campaign as an analogy for the perils of undocumented immigration.
He asserted Biden would “make our cities into dumping grounds resembling the Gaza Strip” and convert the nation “into a hotbed for jihadists.”
A total of 91 criminal charges, including four for alleged federal 2020 election subversion, are being brought against Trump, who is running for the Republican presidential nominee.
