The Ghana Air Force recently hosted a static display and flight demonstration event, highlighting the agility and performance of its aircraft and the expertise of its military pilots.

Held at the Air Force Base in Accra, the event featured seven aircraft, including the MI 171 SH, Z 9, and the K8. A significant highlight was the A-29 Super Tucano Static jet, which was brought to Ghana through collaboration among the Ghana Air Force, Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), and Embraer Defence and Security.

During the demonstration, Ghana Air Force jetfighter pilot Squadron Leader Reginald Kenney, alongside Brazilian counterpart Colonel Ferreira Botelho, showcased the capabilities of the Brazilian-made Tucano Static jet within Ghana’s airspace.

Dignitaries attending the event included the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, Council of State member Sam Okudzeto, and the military high command.

The A-29 Super Tucano Static jet, designed for light attack, counter-insurgency, and reconnaissance missions, performed various maneuvers demonstrating its agility, precision, and firepower capabilities. The flight simulation included air-to-ground simulations for military training, mission planning, and equipment testing.

The demonstration also showcased the Ghana Air Force’s commitment to building a modern and efficient Air Force capable of defending the country’s airspace. Air Vice Marshal Fredrick Asare Kwasi Bekoe emphasized the importance of the demonstration in evaluating the Super Tucano aircraft as an offensive platform to enhance Ghana’s deterrent and offensive capabilities in the sub-region.

Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul highlighted the significance of airpower in countering terrorism and asymmetric warfare, emphasizing the strategic partnership between the Ghana Air Force, SNC, and Embraer Defence and Security in addressing security challenges within the sub-region.
