A significant incident unfolded in Ankara, Turkey, as Mohammed Fattah al-Burhan Rahmane, the son of Sudan’s army chief and de-facto leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, sustained severe injuries in a road accident.
According to reports from local media, Rahmane was riding his motorbike in the capital city when he collided with a utility vehicle. The impact of the collision threw him several meters from his bike, causing critical injuries. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit for urgent medical attention.
The Sudanese embassy in Ankara has yet to release any official statement regarding the incident, leaving many concerned both domestically and internationally. Rahmane’s friends, family, and well-wishers anxiously await updates on his condition, hoping for his swift recovery.
This unfortunate event occurs amidst ongoing tensions between Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who leads the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The rift between the two generals emerged following a joint military coup in 2021, which disrupted Sudan’s fragile democratic transition.
The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with tens of thousands killed, including as many as 15,000 in a single town in West Darfur, according to assessments by United Nations experts.
