Veteran broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa has criticized the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government for persisting with the construction of the National Cathedral of Ghana. During an interview on Starr FM on March 7, 2024, KSM expressed bewilderment that the government prioritizes completing the cathedral while many Ghanaians lack hospital beds and suffer from hunger.
He challenged the idea that completing the National Cathedral would please God, asserting that God would find greater satisfaction in providing beds for the sick and food for the starving.
KSM emphasized the unnecessary luxury of the cathedral, suggesting that such grand projects should only be pursued once Ghana reaches a level of development comparable to Dubai or Johannesburg. He strongly opposed the notion that building the cathedral would result in extra blessings from God, arguing that true blessings come from initiatives like building hospitals and addressing hunger.
He went on to criticize those claiming that the cathedral’s construction would please God, describing it as making God “a petty God.” KSM emphasized that the God he serves is not concerned with the buildings or specific times of worship.
Contrary to claims that an additional $250 million is required to complete the cathedral, Rev Victor Kusi Boateng, the Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, defended the project’s cost, citing the $600 million spent on the America Bible Museum, a structure smaller than the National Cathedral of Ghana.
