In Nigeria, there has been backlash regarding the decision to rename an airport after President Bola Tinubu.

The government of Niger state announced the renaming of Minna International Airport to honor President Tinubu for his contributions to the region’s development. However, some Nigerians have criticized the move, considering it as an indulgent project.

President Tinubu visited Minna to inaugurate the revamped airport, previously known as Abubakar Imam International Airport, named after a Nigerian writer and journalist who pioneered the region’s first Hausa language newspaper.

Last year, aviation authorities unveiled plans to rename 15 airports after prominent Nigerians, including former presidents.
