The Electoral Commission (EC) has expressed opposition to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s proposal to employ drones for monitoring election activities nationwide.
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, labeled the use of drones in polling stations as “illegal,” citing them as designated “security zones.”
Speaking to Joy News in an interview monitored by Peacefmonline.com, Dr. Quaicoe emphasized that such actions would require authorization from the appropriate authorities.
Meanwhile, the NDC has pledged to take extra measures to prevent any potential rigging in the upcoming December 7 general elections. One such measure involves deploying drones to oversee election processes, particularly in critical areas like the Greater Accra Region.
Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, revealed plans to train constituency executives on drone usage for monitoring election activities. This initiative aligns with the party’s commitment to safeguarding ballots.
These developments follow calls from the NDC’s flagbearer, Mr. John Dramni Mahama, urging vigilance during the December 7 polls.
