Burkina Faso has demanded the departure of three French diplomats within 48 hours, accusing them of engaging in “subversive activities,” as stated in a letter from the foreign ministry reported by Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The diplomats named in the expulsion order are Gwenaelle Habouzit, Herve Fournier, and Guillaume Reisacher, though specific details of the allegations were not provided by the Burkinabe government.
According to Reuters, a source familiar with the matter attributed their expulsion to meetings held with civil society leaders.
France criticized the decision, with a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denouncing the lack of legitimate grounds and describing the allegations as unfounded.
