A police officer stationed at the Lusaka Central Police, operating within the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), has not only demonstrated adeptness in apprehending criminals but also in engaging in extramarital affairs. Gift Mutiti, the officer in question, found himself in the spotlight of the Matero Local Court when his wife was sued for defamation by his alleged mistress, who happened to be married to a businessman.

The plaintiff, 27-year-old Janet Kabambele from Zanimuone, brought a defamation suit against 26-year-old Jacqueline Mulenga. Mulenga accused Kabambele of engaging in adultery with her husband, the police officer, and even going so far as to thank him for their amorous encounters. She alleged that Mutiti boasted about his prowess in bed, comparing himself to a skilled athlete and bragging about his ability to satisfy Kabambele.

The courtroom drama shifted from defamation proceedings to a airing of marital grievances before Magistrate Lewis Mumba. Mulenga revealed that Kabambele had been involved with her husband since 2017, even continuing the affair after Mulenga and her husband were married. Kabambele, on the other hand, claimed she was unaware of Mutiti’s marital status during their involvement.

Kabambele’s defense rested on her lack of knowledge regarding Mutiti’s marriage, stating that she only discovered his marital status three years into their relationship. However, she admitted to being seen with Mutiti by Mulenga’s husband, leading to tensions and arguments between the couples. The magistrate adjourned the case, ordering both parties to present their husbands for further testimony.
