David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has taken Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade, to court.
In a motion filed by his legal team, including Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, Davido is seeking joint custody of his daughter, Imade. Alternatively, he is requesting the court to grant him unrestricted access to Imade.
The case, numbered LD/1587PMC/2024, lists Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke as the applicant and Ms. Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent.
Davido stated that while his relationship with Momodu, which resulted in Imade’s birth on May 14, 2015, has since ended, they had agreed to co-parent.
He asserted, “I have consistently paid for my daughter’s school fees to ensure she receives the best education and have also provided for their housing.”
To support this, Davido said he purchased a N200 million apartment in a secure gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, equipped with amenities like a swimming pool and 24-hour power and water supply. However, Momodu rejected the offer and insisted on a rented apartment costing N5 million annually.
Davido also detailed additional provisions he made, such as buying a Range Rover SUV for transportation needs and providing another vehicle, a Highlander SUV, along with N5.8 million for repairs. He stated that despite these efforts, Momodu continued to make exorbitant demands, including $800 monthly for a nanny, amounting to $19,600 annually.
Davido lamented that despite his contributions, Momodu has been “inflicting unwarranted cruelty” and causing him considerable distress.
