Rwanda’s ruling coalition is leading in the legislative election, with President Kagame’s Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) maintaining dominance with over 62% of the votes.
Historic parties such as the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party received approximately 11% and 9% of the votes respectively.
Parties allied with the RPF, including some led by ministers, supported President Paul Kagame during the presidential campaign and accompanied him at campaign events.
Two groups outside the coalition, PS Imberakuri and the Democratic Green Party, secured just over 5% of the votes, meeting the minimum threshold for parliamentary seats.
Following these proportional representation elections, the composition of the assembly is expected to remain largely unchanged from the one elected in 2018.
The electoral commission has yet to provide the detailed distribution of deputies by political party.
In the presidential election, provisional results show President Paul Kagame winning 99% of the vote, as reported by electoral authorities. This outcome, based on 79% of ballots cast, was widely anticipated as Kagame seeks to extend his nearly three-decade rule.
Kagame’s opponents, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana, each received less than 1% of the vote in the provisional results.
