Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has written a letter urging Nigerians to reconsider embarking on a protest.
In a post on her Instagram page, she expressed her understanding of the frustration and concerns about the current state of the nation. She acknowledged how disheartening it is to wake up and see a 100% increase in prices for everything in the market.
However, she believes that the planned nationwide protest from August 1-10, 2024, might not be the most effective approach.
She emphasized that her suggestion is not to undermine the power of protest or to deprive youths of their civil rights. Instead, it stems from concern and experience with the previous EndSARS protest, where malicious individuals hijacked the movement to perpetrate violence, costing many youths their lives.
Tonto proposed establishing a representative group to meet with the President and advocate on behalf of the people. She added that the economic burden affects everyone, and it is crucial to address these challenges through peaceful and diplomatic channels.
“Sometimes we can be right, but our mode of expression is what matters.
This is an honest plea to all Nigerian youths. Let’s make smart choices”.
