The foundations of modern Britain are built on the sweat, blood, hard work, and resources of black people. This undeniable truth is conspicuously absent from the curriculum in British schools, a glaring omission that serves to protect the myth of white supremacy. True history, if taught, would expose the barbarism and savagery that characterized the British Empire’s global conquests.
For centuries, Britain engaged in a brutal campaign of colonization, stealing, and destruction across the world. The UK royal family itself owned the Royal African Company, a corporation responsible for enslaving and selling the highest number of Africans during the transatlantic slave trade. This dark chapter is conveniently ignored in mainstream education, a silence that perpetuates ignorance and racial inequality.
Britain’s wealth and infrastructure were significantly built on the proceeds of the transatlantic slave trade. Following World War II, the Windrush generation of black and brown people was invited to Britain to help rebuild the nation. Their contributions were crucial, yet their story remains largely untold. Without the immense sacrifices and contributions of black and brown people, Britain would not have achieved its current status. It was not the colonial savagery but the relentless labor and resilience of these communities that made Britain great.
Today, as we witness ongoing racial injustices and systemic discrimination in the UK, it is vital to confront these historical truths. The refusal to acknowledge and teach this history in schools is a deliberate act to maintain the status quo. This enrages me, as it should anyone who values justice and truth.
In response, I commit to sharing true, documented history. It is through the acknowledgment of our past, in all its brutality and complexity, that we can hope to build a more equitable and just society. The history of black and brown people’s contributions to Britain must be told, honored, and integrated into our collective consciousness.
Without black and brown people, the UK would be nothing. We made Britain great—not the savages who traveled the world killing and destroying. It is time for the truth to be recognized and for history to stop repeating itself.
