Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote is making headlines with his refinery’s new colorless petrol, known as Premium Motor Spirit, which has just begun production.
The Dangote Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has launched its first batch of this petrol, generating significant online buzz.
In a press event, Dangote showcased the initial sample of the petrol and reassured Nigerians of its superior quality. He emphasized that this new fuel will enhance vehicle performance and longevity. “You will now have access to high-quality petrol, which will ensure your vehicle engines last longer,” he stated.
Dangote, who is originally from Kano State, also thanked President Tinubu for the approval to sell crude oil in Naira, a move he believes will benefit the industry.
During a presentation at his refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, Dangote explained that the petrol’s clear appearance is indicative of its environmental benefits.
He highlighted that the cleaner petrol is designed to reduce health risks associated with polluted fuels and prevent engine damage caused by lower-quality alternatives. His daughter, Fatimah Dangote, the refinery’s vice-president, was also present at the event.
The introduction of Dangote’s colorless petrol has sparked a range of reactions online, with some comparing its appearance to water or tequila and questioning its performance compared to traditional petrol.
