Yuri Ushakov, the Russian President’s foreign affairs adviser, announced on Thursday that 24 world leaders have confirmed their attendance at the upcoming BRICS summit, set to take place in Kazan later this month. Among those attending are leaders from nine member countries, including China’s Xi Jinping, Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian.
Ushakov added that invitations were extended to 38 nations, comprising both BRICS members and countries interested in collaborating with the bloc.
Originally founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, BRICS expanded in 2010 with the inclusion of South Africa. Recently, the group has grown to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in joining, while Azerbaijan has formally applied.
