South Africa reclosed its border with Mozambique just hours after reopening it on Thursday due to escalating post-election violence in Mozambique, where protests have led to clashes with police.
South African authorities advised citizens to delay any non-essential travel to Mozambique. Amnesty International reported that since protests began in late October, at least 20 people have died, with hundreds more injured and detained.
Initially, the border had reopened to allow limited movement for stranded trucks and vehicles, but the decision was swiftly reversed amid rising tensions.
