The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana has announced plans to resume its strike on Tuesday, November 28, to demand improved working conditions.
In a statement dated November 25 and addressed to the Minister of Health and other stakeholders, the Association expressed frustration over the lack of action to address their concerns.
“We regret to inform you that due to the lack of practical commitment to resolving the issues affecting mortuary workers in Ghana, we will resume our strike action, which was suspended on Thursday, September 26, 2024,” the statement, signed by General Secretary Richard Kofi Jordan, read.
The Association highlighted that despite attempts to reach a resolution, the underlying grievances remain unresolved, leaving them no option but to act in defense of their members’ interests.
The statement further warned, “The strike action will officially begin on Thursday, November 28, 2024, unless a satisfactory response is received regarding our outstanding demands. We remain open to constructive dialogue, even at this late stage, to resolve the impasse.”
Members working in both public and private mortuary facilities have been instructed to shut down operations starting November 28 until further notice.
