Ghana has dropped four places in the latest FIFA rankings, now sitting at 77th globally after a disappointing finish to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign.

Previously ranked 73rd in October, the Black Stars remain 14th in Africa, trailing behind top teams such as Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.

This decline follows a poor performance in the qualifiers, where Ghana earned just three points from six matches. Their campaign ended with a 1-1 draw against Angola and a 2-1 home loss to Niger, leaving them at the bottom of Group F and failing to qualify for AFCON 2025.

Niger, one of Ghana’s Group F opponents, saw a significant rise in the rankings, climbing nine places to 122nd globally.

This setback marks a tough year for the Black Stars, who were ranked as high as 67th in February 2024, but have since fallen to 77th in November. Despite the drop, Ghana holds onto its 14th position in Africa, ahead of teams like Zambia and Gabon, but still behind Cape Verde and Burkina Faso.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars aim to regroup and improve as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, starting in March.

Globally, Argentina remains the top-ranked team, followed by France. However, recent losses for both sides have allowed Spain and England to close the gap, with Spain moving into third and England in fourth. Brazil completes the top five, with no changes in the top ten since the last update in July.

As the Black Stars reflect on their recent struggles, their focus now shifts to rebuilding and preparing for the challenges ahead on the international stage.
