Vice President and NPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has hailed Ghana’s new digital border control system and e-gates at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) as a groundbreaking step in intelligent border management, placing the nation at the forefront of global innovation and ahead of many advanced countries.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the system facilitates swift biometric and facial recognition checks, enabling Ghanacard holders to pass through designated e-gates without requiring manual immigration clearance upon arrival. Additionally, diaspora members and foreign visitors can use the e-gates by pre-registering their biometric and travel details.
Speaking at the launch on December 3, he described the initiative as a “monumental leap forward in border management,” emphasizing that the system was “designed and built by Ghanaians” and is entirely “owned and managed by the Ghana Immigration Service.”
Highlighting Ghana’s forward-thinking approach to border security, Dr. Bawumia noted that the integration of biometric and facial recognition technology places the country among a select group globally and ahead of many developed nations in adopting advanced systems for efficient and secure travel.
