An altercation between military personnel and a civilian was captured in Obuasi East, Ashanti Region, during the December 7, 2024 elections.
In a video circulating online, the military personnel were seen demanding that bystanders stop recording them with their phones and allow them entry to the polling center. However, their instructions were ignored, escalating the situation.
Frustrated by the disregard, one of the soldiers engaged in a heated physical confrontation with a civilian. Concerned residents quickly intervened to separate the parties involved.
During the incident, the civilian was heard defiantly addressing the military personnel, saying, “Get away, if you try you will see. Where are you going?”
In response, one of the soldiers insisted, “Stop taking the video, allow me to go and don’t touch me.”
The incident highlights tensions surrounding election security and the interaction between security forces and civilians during the electoral process.
