Nigeria’s Dangote Oil Refinery, the largest in Africa, is set to reach full operational capacity within the next 30 days. Situated in Lagos, the 650,000-barrel-per-day facility, built by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, aims to revolutionize the country’s energy industry.
Since commencing operations in January last year, the refinery has been producing diesel, naphtha, and jet fuel, with petrol production beginning in September. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s strategy to cut dependence on imported refined products and strengthen its domestic fuel supply.
Despite facing challenges in securing a steady local crude supply, the refinery is expected to compete with European refiners once fully operational, with the potential to export fuel across Africa and beyond.
As production scales up, the refinery is projected to be a game-changer, driving job creation, boosting economic growth, and significantly reducing Nigeria’s fuel import expenses.
