PassionAir has refuted claims that one of its flights turned back to Accra due to a fuel shortage, dismissing the reports as “false and misleading.”
In a statement issued on May 31, 2025, the airline clarified that Flight OP 122, scheduled from Accra to Takoradi, departed Kotoka International Airport at 6:18 a.m. but returned six minutes later after the pilot responded to an onboard alert—unrelated to fuel.
“Approximately six minutes after takeoff, the Captain elected to return to base due to an indication received in the flight deck not related to fuel,” the airline explained. “The aircraft landed safely, and our engineers promptly conducted diagnostics to resolve the issue.”
PassionAir confirmed that all passengers disembarked safely, and after engineers fixed the fault, the aircraft was refueled, cleared for service, and re-operated as Flight OP 122A without further incident.
The airline expressed regret over the spread of unverified information and reiterated its commitment to safety, stating it operates “in strict compliance with aviation regulatory standards.”
An apology was extended to affected passengers, with gratitude to the public for their understanding.
No fuel shortage occurred—safety protocols were followed, the airline emphasized.
