First Lady and President of the Lordina Foundation, Lordina Mahama, has called on Ghanaians, particularly those with chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), to register for the Ghana Medical Trust, also known as MahamaCares.
She emphasized that this newly introduced healthcare initiative by the President will address medical needs currently not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The program will also offer preventive care at the community level for individuals and their families.
Mrs. Mahama made these remarks during the third free health screening, consultation, and medication event for the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association in Greater Accra. The event took place last Friday at the Ringway Assemblies of God Church in Accra.
A Commitment to Retired Ministers’ Health
The quarterly health initiative was launched after the First Lady pledged support during a church event on September 1, 2024. True to her promise, the Lordina Foundation organized the first screening in November 2024, followed by subsequent editions in March and June 2025.
A team of experienced medical professionals from institutions such as the 37 Military Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) conducted screenings. Services included specialized consultations in urology, gynecology, optometry, and general medicine, alongside lab tests for blood sugar, Hepatitis B, cancer, and prostate health.
Encouraging Proactive Healthcare
Addressing the retirees, Mrs. Mahama highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups in maintaining well-being. She described the initiative as an opportunity for beneficiaries to access quality care and expert medical advice.
“This is one of the many ways the Lordina Foundation gives back to society, especially to those who have devoted their lives to serving others,” she said. She also expressed gratitude to the medical team and church leaders, including Rev. Benjamin Tete and regional superintendents Rev. Michael Ayensu and Rev. Nelson Arwintia, for their support.
Retirees Laud Initiative
Rev. Dr. Harry Insaidoo, President of the association, praised the program, stating, “This is one of the most significant and uplifting initiatives for us. Every three months, we receive thorough medical examinations, free medication, and valuable health advice to improve our quality of life.”
The Lordina Foundation remains committed to prioritizing healthcare for the elderly, women, children, and other vulnerable groups, reinforcing its mission to support underserved communities.
