FIFA President Gianni Infantino firmly rejected the proposal for ‘blue cards’ put forth by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), expressing his lack of awareness about the concept until it gained public attention.

The IFAB suggested the introduction of ‘blue cards,’ allowing referees to dismiss players for 10 minutes for dissent or committing deliberate fouls. This proposal was deliberated at the IFAB’s Annual General Meeting in Scotland, where FIFA was engaged in discussions.

Infantino emphasized, “There will be no implementation of blue cards at the elite level. This is a subject that is not on our agenda.” Arriving at the IFAB meeting at Loch Lomond in Scotland, he asserted, “FIFA firmly opposes the idea of blue cards. I, as the FIFA president, was not informed about this matter. FIFA holds influence within IFAB, and if you need a headline, consider it a red card to the blue card.”

While expressing FIFA’s openness to considering new ideas and proposals, Infantino highlighted the need to preserve the essence and tradition of the game, concluding, “There is no place for blue cards.”
