The Ghana Gas Company has reassured the public that the recent emergency landing of a Ghana Air Force helicopter, registration number GHF 696, at Bonsukrom in the Western Region on Tuesday, March 19, will not disrupt their operations. In a statement signed by Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, Head of Corporate Communications, the company urged residents of Bonsukrom and its operational staff to remain calm.

The incident, attributed to adverse weather conditions, occurred during a routine inspection of the company’s onshore and offshore gas pipeline right-of-way. The helicopter was carrying 14 Ghana Gas personnel, six Air Force crew members, and one other service provider. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, and all passengers have been safely accounted for. The crew members are currently undergoing standard medical examinations.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) also issued a statement confirming the emergency landing. According to Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quarshie, Director General of Public Relations for the Air Force, the helicopter was conducting a routine offshore powerline inspection of the Atuabo gas plant when the incident occurred. All 21 passengers, comprising Ghana National Gas Company staff and aircrew, have been safely evacuated and are undergoing medical checks. Despite the unexpected event, operations are expected to continue without disruption.
