Teni, a well-known highlife singer who was born Teniola Apata, has spoken about how she feels about receiving national honors for her work in the music industry.
Teni attended the award ceremony on Tuesday, October 11, where President Buhari personally presented her with her national honor as a member of the order of the Niger. Along with 437 other candidates, Teni, TuBaba, and Burna Boy were nominated for national honors.
One of Teni’s detractors claimed that by refusing to give the President of Nigeria an honorable handshake, she was showing him contempt.
Teni strode majestically back to her seat after accepting the award from the President because she couldn’t wait for a handshake. This didn’t sit well with some Nigerians.
