The 78-year-old finance minister died on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was reportedly receiving medical attention, according to the portal.
Dr. Kwesi Botchwey is a renowned economist and authority on governance who worked under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) from 1982 to 1991. (1992 to 1995)

Kwesi Botchwey, a doctor, was born on September 3, 1944. The Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School in Ghana is where he received his secondary education.
He later graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ghana and a Master of Laws from Yale Law School in the United States.
The late minister of finance and economist earned his doctorate from the American University of Michigan Law School.
Dr. Kwesi Botchwey taught at the Universities of Zambia, Tanzania’s University of Dar es Salaam, and Ghana’s University of Ghana before becoming a finance minister.
Additionally, he provided World Bank advice for the 1997 World Development Report.
As the Chairman of the IMF’s Group of Independent Experts, which carried out the first-ever external examination of the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility within the Fund, Dr. Botchwey had extensive experience in economic management.
He also provided advice to the European Centre for Development Policy Management and the UNDP’s UN Special Initiative on Africa (ECDPM).
