A video capturing pupils sitting on blocks while studying at a public basic school in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region has sparked reactions on social media among Ghanaians. GHOne TV shared the video on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, depicting numerous children, some in school uniforms and others in casual clothing, seated on blocks resembling tables in what appears to be a classroom setting.
The person filming the video indicated that the school belonged to the Pinvori community in the district and emphasized its antiquity. Additionally, the narrator mentioned that the bowls in front of the students were used for fetching and drinking water.
The footage has ignited criticism of the government by some Ghanaians, attributing the scenes to its alleged negligence.
Meanwhile, others argue that improving education is a collective responsibility that requires the participation of everyone. Calls have also emerged for the accountability of the Member of Parliament representing the area.
