Nigerians have taken to social media to challenge the emergence of Elon Musk as the world’s richest man, arguing that there are much richer people in the South Eastern part of Nigeria, specifically Nnewi and Onitsha, both in Anambra state.

Yesterday, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk was announced as the new world’s richest person after overtaking Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, according to Bloomberg.

After a 5% rise in Tesla (TSLA) shares Musk’s stock in options rose by about $9.3 billion, to about $190 billion.

While a modest rise of less than 2% lifted Bezos’ Amazon (AMZN) shares by $2.7 billion, putting him at $187 billion. This placed Bill Gates at a distant third with $132 billion, according to Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, Nigerians believe that there are billionaires in Nnewi whose net worth would surpass Musk when laid sude by side.

Taking to Twitter, citizens of Africa’s largest nation shared their thoughts on why they believe Musk, Bezos and Gates are not the top richest men in the world.
