The death has been announced of Cameroon’s eldest member of the Senate, Nfon Victor Esemingsongo Mukete.
According to reports, he died early this Saturday April 10 at the Yaounde General Hospital after a prolonged illness.
The late Senator was the Paramount ruler of the Bafaw people in the Meme Division, South West region of Cameroon.
In 2020, he handed over the throne to his son, Ekoko IV Mukete.
Author of a book, My Odyssey: History of the reunification of Cameroon, Nfon Mukete was born on November 15, 1918 in Kumba, South West region.
He served as Minister of Information in Nigeria before the reunification of Southern Cameroons with the French Cameroon from 1958 to 1959.
Before his demise, Nfon Mukete was the eldest member of the Senate.
He passes away when he was yet to celebrate his 103rd birthday in November.
Nfon Mukete is the third personality to die in Cameroon in less than 24 hours after Prof Gervais Mendo Ze, former Director General of State owned CRTV and Martin Aristide Okouda, ex Minister of Public Works who both died Friday April 9.
