Guinea’s National Council of the Rally for Development, or CNRD, has declared a three-year or 36-month transition to civilian administration.
The decision, which was made public on Wednesday, pits the country against regional allies and the United Nations, which have both asked for a significantly shorter transition period.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, the chairman of the military junta, had previously specified a transition period of 39 months.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya deposed Alpha Conde in September 2021 and declared himself president since then.
Doumbouya also promised to hand over authority to civilians elected by the people.
Guinea has been suspended from the Economic Community of West African States, along with Mali and Burkina Faso, two other nations in the region where the military has taken power (ECOWAS).
