Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential candidate for 2023, has accepted his victory at the party’s national convention, which ended today in Abuja.
According to reports, Tinubu won the APC presidential ticket on Wednesday, defeating Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in a landslide.
After Tinubu, Osinbajo finished in third, with Rotimi Amaechi, the former Transportation Minister, coming in second.
Tinubu expressed his gratitude to God for the exercise’s success in his acceptance speech, adding, “Today is another historic day, and it is due to God almighty that you are living healthy to see it, to be part of it, to be your calling, to be your arrangement.”
He praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his role in ensuring the smooth running and conduct of the presidential elections. The incumbent leader, according to Tinubu, is a humble and gracious man.
“We all, not just as a party, have gone beyond political notion now,” he remarked. As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, you have it. You put it all together, and you’ve been gracious and humble right from the start. We owe you a debt of gratitude.”
Tinubu claims that he never expected to win the primary election, but that it did, and that “I must be drunk by the success.” “What am I supposed to do?”
The APC candidate, on the other hand, expressed regret to President Muhammadu Buhari for making him wait throughout his speech.
According to Advertafrica.net, Tinubu praised Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was one of his top presidential contenders, and called the nation’s number two citizen as a good supportive pillar to President Buhari.
“We thank you, Vice President, for being a very excellent and supportive pillar, a good assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo GCON,” he added.
In his speech, however, the former Lagos State governor expressed his displeasure with Senate President Ahmed Lawan’s participation in the race, saying: “To you, the legislature, the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, I would have been a little upset because you competed with me, but that is over now because you can easily leak your wounds.” It doesn’t take away from our gratitude for your earlier cooperation and calmness in helping us create our country. You have assisted in guiding the nation’s ship, and history is being written and will be kind to you, thanks to your Senate colleagues.
“And to my brother, Hakeem Gbajabiamila, the brilliant speaker, I credit you,” Tinubu continues in his award speech. The Gbajabiamilas of Lagos have played an important role in the country’s history, and you will not be forgotten.
“To our party’s chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, it looked a few weeks ago that some media and a large number of individuals were ready to write the party’s obituary. As a cat with nine lives, we put ourselves together and pulled ourselves together. We thatched the roof, braced the pillars, and honed our skills as master builders. You came on and put in a lot of effort with the help of others, and now we’re here. Those who were already constructing APC’s coffin should be ashamed. They should be ashamed of themselves. Our gathering is still going strong.
“They won’t be able to attend the convention, but here we are, the first to do so.” See, the executives and governors got themselves together, we broke our backs, and now we’re here, extremely joyful, confident, and fearless to tell you that a cat lying down gently is not a pretension of death, but rather a breeding of its vigor to devour its adversaries. Now that we’ve here, we’re going to roar. We’ll make it happen. Poverty Development Party will be informed. They call themselves PDP, and after 16 years of wasted failures, it’s time for them to step aside, be buried, and make way for us. Our country will be repaired.
“We are Progressives, and we construct nations.” We aren’t saboteurs. “We are certain that this country will get back on track,” he said.
“We are not the barbaric, blind human beings they think we are,” Tinubu stated of the situation of the nation, particularly the relentless attacks and deaths. They’re pitting us against one other in one way or another. You didn’t know whether you’d be a boy or a girl, a Christian or a Muslim until you were born. You were born into your parents’ religions and choose to follow them.
“The Bible teaches us to love our neighbor as ourselves. It didn’t say to murder your neighbor. It’s written in both of the sacred books. Thank you for your kindness. Learn to accept mistakes rather than blaming them on bullets or the destruction of lives and property, since the life you take is irreplaceable, and the hatred you spew will not satisfy your desire. We need to create a new culture and learn to think in new ways.”
Tinubu praised all of his fellow candidates for their tenacious and vehement opposition, which he said improved the party and humbled him. He also praised all seven aspirants who stood aside in favor of him, saying it was a difficult decision.
“The tournament has come to an end. You have nothing to fear if you did not support me. I don’t carry grudges. Let us band together to defeat the PDP and reverse their backward view of Nigeria. They had 16 years, drained our resources, and deprived us of food. Let us bury them by defeating them in the next election because they are agents of poverty, terror, violence, and deception,” Tinubu continued.
