An immigration official announced on Monday that a Chinese national wanted in Malawi for filming young children yelling racist epithets in Chinese had been taken into custody in Zambia.

According to Pasqually Zulu, a spokesman for Malawi immigration, “He was detained in Chipata, Zambia, after fleeing the country.”

The Chinese guy Lu Ke is accused of photographing kids in Malawian villages using offensive Chinese language to make racist remarks about themselves.

A young person in one video declares: “I am a monster with a low IQ.” According to a case reported by the BBC last week, Lu Ke afterwards sold the videos on Chinese social networks.

Police spokesman Harry Namwaza told AFP that Malawi would pursue his extradition and stated, “We want him to be tried in Malawi.”

The Chinese embassy in Malawi denounced the acts of one of its citizens last week in a statement, emphasizing that “the Chinese government has zero-tolerance for bigotry.”

The statement said, “The embassy will work closely with Malawi to ensure that this terrible matter is handled properly.
