Her term in Bangladesh will end on August 30, 2022, and she will begin her new job with the World Bank Group in Washington, DC, on September 1st, according to information released by Bangladesh Post.

Mercy Miyang Tembon was previously the World Bank Country Director for Bhutan and Bangladesh until June 30, 2019.
She thanked her former assistants and said she was “honored to have been a part of Bangladesh’s extraordinary development journey over the past three years.”
The Cameroonian began working for the World Bank as an education specialist in 2000, and since then, she has held high roles in several nations. Tambon held the position of Country Director for the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia) in the Europe and Central Asia region prior to accepting this position. Additionally, she served as Burkina Faso’s and Burundi’s country manager for the World Bank across the continent of Africa.
Tambon graduated from the University of London in England with a doctorate in economics of education. She worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in the UK prior to joining the World Bank. She is the author of various works on themes related to economic development, gender equality, and education.
