I’ve gone through all the pains and aches – Ghana’s Finance minister replies critics.

Ken Ofori-Atta, the finance minister, responded to those who have demanded for his resignation.

He claims to have experienced the “pain and aches,” but he is more worried about how the nation overcomes its difficulties.

“You have a Finance Minister who has gone through all the pains and aches, and nobody can really come and say ‘we don’t understand what we’re doing’,” he stated.

On Thursday, Mr. Ofori-Atta gave a speech to the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) members in which he expressed faith in the nation and claimed it was built for greatness.

He urges Ghanaians to focus on how the nation’s resources might be used wisely to promote growth and development at this time when the country is experiencing significant economic problems rather than the increased calls for his resignation.

The Ghanaian economy is thought to have been grossly mismanaged, and Ken Ofori-Atta has come under heavy pressure in recent weeks to resign.

His own party members, including some Majority MPs, have backed the calls and vowed to boycott government transactions if he is not removed from office.

But Mr. Ofori-Atta has mobilized Ghanaians’ support to get the nation out of the woods.

“Let me assure you all that your best bet is still Ghana; we can do it and we should do it. The question is ‘what resources do we have’ and ‘how we’re going to deploy them in the nation that we have’?

“… and how do we stand firm in very difficult circumstances by being very confident that the nation is purposed for greatness and you are blessed to have the opportunity to lead where we are going.”

The motion of censure against Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has already been submitted by the Parliamentary Minority.

They contend that the Minister is incapable and is to blame for Ghanaians’ current economic difficulties.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, stated in an interview with JoyNews that they are hoping that the procedures to remove Mr. Ofori-Atta will be finished by November 10.

The Speaker of Parliament has approved the proposal, he stated.

Right now, all members of the Majority Caucus support the demands for President Akufo-cousin Addo’s to be fired.

“Even though the issue started with the group of 80 plus, the caucus meeting aligned with the position of that group, so it is no longer the cause of the 80 plus MPs. It is the agenda for the entire caucus and we are having some discussions on that,” the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu disclosed.

President’s appeal

Prior to starting any resignation discussions, President Akufo-Addo requested additional time for the Finance Minister to finish negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to documents made accessible to JoyNews, a $3 billion balance of payment support agreement with the IMF could be finalised in three weeks.

The President worries that if Ken Ofori-Atta is fired or forced to resign, this could be disturbed.

This was an outcome of a meeting held by President Akufo-Addo and NPP Members of Parliament over the demand for the finance minister to be sacked over his handling of the economy.

Several attempts, according to several NPP MPs, to get the administration to address the problems facing their constituents’ struggling economies have been ineffective.
