The first female vice-president of Gabon was appointed on Monday (Jan. 09) by the country’s president, Ali Bongo Odimba.
Prior to this nomination, Rose Christian Ossouka Raponda was the prime minister.
The 59-year-old was previously the defence minister and mayor of Libreville, the country’s capital.
She makes history a second time by occupying a position that has been empty since 2019 in this way. She did, in fact, become the nation’s first female prime minister in July 2020.
The vice president’s function is to “help” the head of state; in the event of a power vacuum, the vice president has no acting responsibilities.
New Premier Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze has been appointed.
The president chose a politician who has served in a number of ministerial roles since 2006. His current assignment is to create a new government.
