Vice-President of Ambia Badara Alieu Joof passed away on Tuesday in India due to illness, according to President Adama Barrow.
Joof passed away “after a short illness,” Barrow wrote on Twitter, without going into any detail.
In 2022, Joof, 65, was named vice president of the nation in West Africa. He had previously been the minister of education.
About three weeks ago, the vice president travelled to the Gambia to receive medical attention.
When Mr. Barrow was elected to a second term in December 2021, he chose him to serve as vice president.
According to our reporter, Mr. Joof expressed unhappiness with how public affairs were being handled in June, adding that the Gambians had high expectations and “business as usual” would not result in significant change.
