Idris Elba, a celebrated British actor, has expressed interest in establishing a film studio in Tanzania, according to a presidential advisor there. The assistant, according to the BBC, claimed that this came about after preliminary discussions between Elba and President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
President Hassan and the actor from The Harder They Fall met in January at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina met with the president; they are eager to invest in a film studio in Tanzania. The studio will help not only Tanzania but also east and central Africa”, according to Zuhura Yunus, director of presidential communications. The talks are still in the early stages.
After the passing of her immediate predecessor John Magufuli, President Hassan took the oath of office. According to reports, she has since led numerous efforts in business, commerce, investment, and foreign policy. The 50-year-old actor will join other A-list celebrities who have invested in Africa if his initiative materialises. Michael Blackson, a Ghanaian-American comedian and actor, inaugurated his free school in his village of Agona Nsaba over the holiday season. A number of dignitaries, including traditional leaders and guests from the diaspora, were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 3.
Blackson shared a video of the vibrant event on Twitter and claimed that he has always wanted to complete the project. The 50-year-old said, “Today is the best day of my life because I’ve finally done what I always wanted to do, which is giving these youngsters an opportunity to be great. “Education is the foundation for greatness, and financial constraints shouldn’t exist for basic education.”
Blackson cut sod for the school project after he got home in 2020, as was previously mentioned.
