Son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Hannibal Gaddafi, has started a hunger strike in Lebanon. Hannibal’s lengthy arrest in Lebanon is the cause of his strike, his attorney Paul Romanos told the BBC.
The lawyer informed the BBC that Hannibal Gaddafi has been detained in Lebanon for more than eight years after being kidnapped from Syria, where he had sought asylum following the overthrow and death of his father, by Lebanese terrorists.
He was then taken by the Lebanese police, and according to Mr. Romanos, he has been held without charge in a jail in Beirut ever since.
A statement released by his lawyer Paul Romanos, stated in part, โIn the face of persistent injustice and abuse against me, it is time for me to be released after more than a decade in prison for an arrest and allegations of a crime I did not commit.
โHow can a political prisoner be held without a fair trial for all these years?โ
He continued by saying that he was now fasting and that “those who treat me unfairly” will bear the consequences. He continued, “Now is the time to free the law from the control of politicians.”
Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his second wife Safia have a fifth child, Hannibal Muammar Gaddafi.
