Confederation of African Football (CAF), the governing body of African football, has announced that it has written statements from Cameroon football stakeholders to investigate FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o for alleged unethical behavior.
According to a statement issued by CAF on Wednesday, August 9, it is investigating these requests in accordance with its statutes and regulations.
Even if the accusations appear to be severe, the football association maintained that Eto’o is innocent until proven guilty by an appropriate judicial agency.
In addition, CAF stated that it would not provide any further information while the enquiries were underway and would only do so when the proceedings were concluded.
Amateur football teams in Cameroon demanded Eto’o’s resignation last month.
The clubs have voiced their displeasure over a number of matters, including modifications to the president’s authority, the failure to publish new laws, and Eto’o’s affiliation with a sports betting firm, citing “grave irregularities” in the organisation.
The clubs questioned the legitimacy of Eto’o’s choice to join the betting company as an ambassador since it might go against FIFA and FECAFOOTrules.
FIFA outlaws anybody who adhere to its code from taking part in any betting, gambling, lotteries, or other similar activities that are connected to football games or competitions.
If these rules are broken, penalties may include fines or suspensions from football-related activities.
