Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed the reasons behind his sense of ease within the church setting.
Bawumia emphasized the fundamental role of Jesus Christ in the Christian faith and highlighted the shared attributes between the depictions of Jesus in both the Bible and the Quran.

He underscored the numerous parallels that unite Islam and Christianity regarding Jesus and his mother Mary, illustrating how Jesus serves as a unifying figure for both religions.
“The question of why I feel so at ease in the church is straightforward. I am comfortable because Jesus Christ stands at the heart of the church. As a Muslim, I have a strong affinity for Jesus Christ,” Bawumia explained.
He outlined the similarities between the representations of Jesus Christ in the Bible and the Quran. Bawumia emphasized that Muslims also acknowledge the virgin birth of Jesus and have faith in the holy book.
Speaking at the 23rd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church on August 20, 2023, Bawumia elucidated that the Quran designates Jesus as the spirit of God, and Muslims believe in his extraordinary feats, including raising the dead, healing the blind, and curing the sick.
“We all share the belief that Jesus Christ will return, defeat the anti-Christ, and rescue the world,” he stated. He encouraged the faithful to concentrate on their shared attributes rather than differences, highlighting that the ultimate adversary is Satan, not one another. This perspective, he emphasized, is why he feels entirely at home in the church.
The departing Moderator of the church has endorsed Bawumia as a symbol of harmony between Islam and Christianity.
